UNIMOT decides to enter the bitumen business

19.08.2019

UNIMOT S.A. will welcome an entire team of experts who specialize in importing and distributing bitumen products. For UNIMOT, it is a new market segment which will complement the Group’s offer of oil derivatives. Bitumen products will be offered on the Polish market under the AVIA Bitumen brand.

“The domestic production of bitumen satisfies about 80% of market demand, so just like in the case of diesel fuel, we need to import about 200 thousand tonnes a year,” says Adam Sikorski, President of the Management Board at UNIMOT. “We have been observing this market for quite some time and last year we even made some test transactions. Now, when we had the opportunity to take over an experienced team, we decided to use it,” adds Sikorski.

The team that will join UNIMOT is made up of 11 experts and its head is Tomasz Brodziej, who has 20 years of experience in the broadly defined bitumen industry in Poland and Central Europe. In the past, he worked for companies such as TOTAL, BP and recently ONICO.

In the years 2015-2019, the team which I lead achieved an important position in the Polish bitumen market,” says Tomasz Borodziej, the new head of the bitumen department at UNIMOT S.A. “I am sure that our knowledge and experience as well as the dynamically changing environment in connection with the new IMO2020 regulations will enable UNIMOT Group to effectively enter the new market segment and soon become one of its significant players,” adds Borodziej.

“I am glad that such experienced specialists have joined our ranks and will develop new competencies in this prospective market segment. We hope that in the future, the bitumen business will increasingly support our financial results,” adds Adam Sikorski.
